Product Identification

  • Product names, brands, or other identifiers are not used as primary identification methods due to potential variations and changes.
  • Users should always verify the UPC number matches their product before relying on our assessment.

Manufacturers may change product ingredients without notice. Users should always verify the current ingredients list on the product packaging before purchase and consumption.

Scope

What We Assess

  • Review ingredients, their sources, and how they are made, based on information from manufacturers.
  • Cross-check product ingredients to ensure they are free from alcohol as an ingredient, pork, pork derivatives, and inappropriate animal-derived ingredients as disclosed by manufacturers.

What We Do Not Assess

  • Do not examine manufacturers, factories, or production environments, or assess the risk of cross-contamination.
  • Do not provide halal certifications or definitive religious rulings.
  • Do not consider animal and animal-derived ingredients that have not been mentioned in the name of Allah as appropriate.

Recognized Certifications

Halal Certifications

We recognize and accept halal certifications from reliable authorities, such as HMA (Halal Monitoring Authority), CHFCA (Canadian Halal Food Certification Agency), IFANCC/IFANCA (Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of Canada/America), and ISNA (Islamic Society of North America), along with others that meet established halal standards.

Kosher and Vegan Certifications

  • Kosher certification for animal-derived ingredients is considered appropriate.
  • Kosher gelatin and similar products are not accepted as suitable for Muslim consumption.
  • Vegan-certified products are considered acceptable for animal-derived ingredients.

Prohibited Ingredients

The following ingredients are strictly prohibited in products intended for Muslim consumption:

  • Pork and pork-derived ingredients (e.g., lard, bacon, ham, pork enzymes, gelatin from non-halal sources)
  • Alcohol (ethanol, beer, wine, brandy, liquor, rum, whiskey, sake, mirin wine)
